It’s hard for me to believe that
my family and I are close to
celebrating two years of living in
Portage! It feels like the moving
truck pulled up just months ago.
Like many of you, I felt quite
overwhelmed to start over in a
new place. Not only was I in a
new city, I was a new mom,
going from teaching other
people’s children to staying at
home with mine. The whole
process was a difficult transition
for me until I made a
commitment to get myself
involved. Little by little, I started
to find things to do and people
to connect with. During this
time, I was introduced to PANC.
I was fortunate enough that a
neighbor came over and invited
me to come to a meeting. It was
the first time in my ‘new’ life
that I actually got to spend time
alone with other women!! That’s
what I loved about this group.
Yes, many of us have things here
and there in common but more
importantly, we are all women
who know what it’s like to start
fresh. We are a diverse group but
that’s what makes PANC so
great!
When I started to consider
taking on this role, I thought
about the many great people I’ve
met because of PANC. I
regretted that my commitment
last year wasn’t as high as it
should have been in order to
develop deeper relationships
within the group. I decided that
it wasn’t too late and that if I put
in the effort, this group would
turn into friendship and fun
times! I have many ideas for the
group but I know you do too!!!
Please renew your commitment
to PANC and get involved. I
encourage you to reach out to
others; set up a spontaneous
ladies night, have someone over
for coffee, invite people to
Newcomers... the possibilities are
endless! Step out of your comfort
zone and make someone happy
(not to mention making your
own life richer). You could be
the one to motivate someone
into connecting with their
community and that is a
powerful gift. I’m still grateful to
my neighbor that went out of her
way to reach out to me at a time
when I needed it most. Let’s
have a great year!!
