Portage Area Newcomers is a social organization that helps families find their place in the community. We provide a venue for you to make social connections, business contacts, create a support network, and contribute to community service.

We welcome anyone who is "new", whether newly married or divorced, starting a new business, returning to work or staying home for the first time, returning to school, or experiencing a new life circumstance.

At our bi-monthly meetings, we begin with social time and refreshments. A brief discussion of business includes upcoming events for couples, moms and kids, and always a ladies' night out. After the business portion, we have a special event, such as a speaker or entertainment.

Aside from our bi-monthly meeting, Newcomers also sponsors a host of activities throughout the month. Some of the events include the following:

Book Club

Do you like to read? If so, here's the chance to join with others monthly, to discuss our book-of-the-month.

Couples Night Out

It's always tough to find time with your spouse, so let Newcomers plan the day, time, and event for you. Just show up and have a great time! Some events can be dining out or a games night.

Ladies' Night Out

Get together once a month, without spouses or children. We may see a movie, dine out, go shopping, have a manicure, or participate in a craft. Sounds like heaven, doesn't it?

Member Services & Hospitality

We spread cheer to members who have recently had a baby or other joyous event. We also offer support to anyone in the hospital, or who has suffered a loss or other tragedy.

Men's Night Out

Each month, the men get together for an evening out. It may be to a game, a pub, or some other fun activity.

Moms and Tots

Here's the playgroup you've been looking for. Adult conversation, and an activity to keep the kids happy!

Every year, Newcomers raises funds for a local charitable organization through a major fundraiser and several smaller ones.

From September through May, our bi-monthly Get-Togethers (Sept, Nov, Jan & March) are held on the third Thursday of the month at 7:00 p.m., in St. Michael's Lutheran Church's fellowship hall, 7211 Oakland Dr. in Portage (directions). This is a time for the women of our group to gather with a social time, followed by a brief business meeting, then spend the rest of the time enjoying a special event.
